32 Campers Visit ECC Demo Garden
This past Friday the ECC Demo Garden was bustling with young YMCA campers who were visiting for a workshop on the importance and value of local foods, gardening, and sustainable growth. ECC’s Maggie Ashmore worked with Eric Guindon of Wilmington College’s Grow Food, Grow Hope initiative and Phil Swindler of Swindler and Sons to plan the programs.
The demonstration garden was established this past spring by Energize Clinton County to illustrate both the nutritional and economical benefits of having a small-plot garden. The demonstration garden serves as a way to increase public awareness and provide a valuable educational tool for people of all ages.
For Energize Clinton County, supporting local growth is critical to its mission to promote sustainable development. Along with the demonstration garden, ECC facilitates the Clinton County Farmers Market and the Buy Local First campaign in order to further stimulate the growth of the local economic foundation in Clinton County.
You can keep up with developments and read up on the history of the demonstration garden by clicking HERE.
Also, please check out GFGH‘s John Cropper’s excellent piece in the 7/28 Wilmington News Journal article on Friday’s activities.

ECC Six Month Report
In early November, we wrote “letters to the editor” with hopes of starting a discussion. Six months later, a vision for a sustainable future in Clinton County is growing and energy is becoming value.
ECC does not yet have a board that sits in a room, but it does have a community of supporters from across the country, and it is their wisdom, guidance, encouragement, and financial support which is responsible for everything ECC has accomplished. To mark this benchmark, we are happy to release our first report to you, our Board of Energizers, highlighting six months of ECC’s successes, impacts, and vision for the future.

Week in Review: BIG News
Its a beautiful spring day in Wilmington, and it is with great pleasure that we are able to share this weekly update for such an exciting week at ECC. We’d especially like to extend a warm welcome the many new members of the ECC community who have joined us from across the country. Here is a brief recap of the week’s events, as well as a few of things on the horizon.
(1) ECC in the Press: This has been a great week for ECC in the press. On Tuesday ECC was on featured on NPR’s Morning Edition as part of a two-part series on Wilmington. Then on Wednesday, ECC was interviewed live on Kaya Phillips’ CNN Newsroom PM (still waiting on video, but we were able to post a few photos of the interview). We are honored to have been given the opportunity to share Clinton County’s story with the nation, and we will do everything we can to keep Clinton County in the spotlight. In the last week we have received hundreds of e-mails, and calls from people across the country expressing their support and hope for Clinton County. This outpouring of encouragement has been both humbling and inspiring, and we thank all of those in Clinton County and beyond who have shared their support.

(2) Roundtable Discussion with Pure Blue Energy: ECC and Pure Blue Energy, with guests Bricker and Eckler, LLP, hosted a roundtable discussion on Thursday for local business leaders and public officials to discuss present and future policies which could be utilized to promote green enterprises in Clinton County. The meeting especially focused on how Ohio Senate Bill 221–the Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard–can be leveraged to promote the deployment of advanced energy technologies in CC. We were very pleased with the event, and believe that it served as a great launching point for building a more robust local discussion on developing a strategy for establishing a local Green Enterprise Zone. We’re expecting a lot of action on this front in the near term, so stay tuned.
(3) Wilmington Economic Task Force to host public meetings: It was announced yesterday that the Wilmington Economic Task Force will now be integrating a public portion into its bi-weekly meetings, and we commend the Task Force for taking this step to further its discussion by bringing in community participation. The first public meeting will be held this Tuesday at 9:45 at Wilmington College’s Kelly Center. The Wilmington News Journal reports that Lt. Gov. Lee Fisher will be present, so we strongly encourage everyone to attend to be apart of these very important discussions taking place about the future of Clinton County. We’ll send out a reminder on Monday along with some thoughts and questions to bring to the meeting.
