Earth Hour in Wilmington — March 28th

earthhourWhile out and about in Wilmington this Saturday evening, don’t be fooled into thinking that everyone is closed because the lights are out–chances are, they are one of the many participants of Earth Hour.

Earth Hour is a community-wide event, locally hosted by Energize Clinton County and 32 businesses, and internationally by over 2140 cities, 5481 organizations, and 18,000 businesses in 82 countries. The idea of Earth Hour is to raise awareness of energy conservation by encouraging individuals and groups to turn off or dim non-essential lights for one hour from 8:30-9:30PM on Saturday, March 28th.

The City of Wilmington passed a resolution last council meeting in support of Earth Hour and committing to turn off non-essential lights during Earth Hour at City Hall.

To help individuals go an hour without lights or televisions on in the home, many local businesses are encouraging patrons to spend the hour with them. Whether candle-light dining, going to an acoustic show, or participating in zumba or yoga, there is something for just about everyone this Saturday.

Below is the local guide to Earth Hour events.

Books ‘n’ More will be turning off lights ALL DAY in the store and in the Deli, and hosting a Children’s ‘in the dark’ reading starting at 7pm.

General Denver Hotel will be hosting live music late into the night, with an acoustic set from 8:30-9:30pm.

Get Fit will be hosting a FREE Zumba class from 6:30-7:30pm.

Main Street Yoga Center will be hosting a FREE candle-light yoga class from 7:00-8:00pm.

Generations Pizzeria will be hosting a candle-light dinner, and will be powering down televisions for the hour.

Donatos Pizza will be hosting a candle-light dinner in their dining area.

El Dorado will be dimming down the dining area lights from 8:30-9:30PM.

The following businesses are going to be participating by turning off non-essential lights:

Sam’s Meats, Long Pharmacy, Kratzer Pharmacy, First Choice Video, H&R Block, Stromberg Chiropractic, Royal Z Lanes, Wilmington Savings, National Bank and Trust, Swindler and Sons Florist, Waring Office Supplies, For a Song and a Story, Staples, Big Lots, Domino’s Pizza and Kroger.
