The Innovative Builders of Yellow Springs — German Engineered Energy Efficient Homes — Sept. 9th
September 3, 2009

The dark colours on this thermogram of a Passive house (right) show how little heat is escaping compared to a traditional building (left).
Next week, the Yellow Springs Alternative Energy Interest Group is hosting a very cool event about super insulated passive homes (invitation below). If you’re interested in learning more about the cutting edge techniques for reducing building energy consumption, this is the event for you!! We’re especially excited because the presentation will be given by Pat Murphy, of Community Solutions, one of SW Ohio’s most innovative organizations (check out our post about Community Solutions from last month).
If you’re not familiar with passive housing, the term refers to a rigorous building standard developed in Germany in the 1980′s and 1990′s. There are tons of resources across the web about passive housing to explore, but we recommend Wikipedia and this great New York Times article to get you started.
We’ll be attending, so we hope to see you there!
