Washington Update

January 22, 2009

After a few days without a post (resulting from the combination of a hectic schedule and a lack of reliable internet), we are happy to bring you our latest update from Washington.

(1) The Inauguration — “With hope and virtue, let us brave once more the icy currents, and endure what storms may come.”: It is difficult to sum up in words the experience of being apart of the historic inaugural events on Tuesday. Many of you likely followed the day on television, and got a glimpse of the powerful crowd that stood for 6-8 hours in the sub-20 degree weather. But the cold was endured by the 1.8 million that attended, and we were blessed with a clear and sunny day that lit up the capital. It was truly a humbling moment, and came away with a new and deeper appreciation of the awesome power of American democracy.

{We’re having technical difficulties with our camera, but when we get things straighted out we’ll try to add some pictures}

(2) Meetings in Washington: If you’ve never been to Washington and visited the house and senate buildings to meet with our representatives, we highly recommend it. It is a very exciting experience. Yesterday we met with members of Sen. Brown and Sen. Voinovich’s offices and discussed the growing challenges in Clinton County, along with what Energize Clinton County has been working on. We were very impressed with the awareness of the situation displayed by the staffers with whom we spoke, and ever more impressed with their openness to the idea that now is that time, and Wilmington is the place to begin creating a model for how we can turn Ohio’s economy around. We sincerely look forward to working with both Senators in the future, and encourage everyone to continue making contact with their offices to express our appreciation for their support, and our hope that they will continue to make Clinton County a priority in the coming months.

We’re heading home tomorrow, and look forward to sharing our experiences and stories with you in person.
